About Us

The Village Preservation and Improvement Society (VPIS) is a 501c3 charitable organization dedicated to the improvement of the City of Falls Church through beautification, promotion of community events, and preservation of historic structures and landmarks. VPIS is very active in the community and sponsors several important events and programs:

  • Neighborhood Tree Planting: tree planting program with the City of Falls Church
  • Falls Church Concerts in Parks – weekly concerns in Cherry Hill Part run from late June to early August
  • Fourth of July Readings – a community gathering to read the Declaration of Independence
  • Arbor Day Celebration – an annual event celebrating the City of Falls Church’s tree planting efforts, the Tree City award, and to commemorate the first Arbor Day celebration in Virginia held in the city in 1892.

VPIS also provides grants for important projects in the city including a tree identification program and replanting Cherry Hill Park with native plants.
