Operation EarthWatch
VPIS, in partnership with the City’s Environmental Sustainability Council, assists in the management of the very successful Operation EarthWatch program in local elementary schools.
Operation EarthWatch is a locally developed, voluntary, volunteer-run and uniquely Falls Church environmental education and action program that celebrated its 25th anniversary during the 2017-2018 school year.
New volunteers always welcome! To volunteer or to find out more email: earthwatchcontact@gmail.com
Participation runs from October through March. During these months, children perform activities that demonstrate Earth stewardship by recycling and reuse, waste reduction, energy conservation, nature care, and water conservation. If a student takes part for all six months, s/he will receive an Operation EarthWatch T-shirt and have the option of marching with us in the Memorial Day parade
Mt. Daniel Elementary, Oak Street Elementary and St. James Catholic Elementary schools participate in the program. Students who participate for K-5 at Mt. Daniel and Thomas Jefferson, or K-6 at St. James, will have their names placed on a plaque sponsored by the Lions Club and displayed at their school.
